The vehicle specific recessed step pads have been tested and are strategically placed on the bars to ensure a proper placement of your footing when entering and exiting your vehicle.

Sometimes that is the body mount locations where the truck body attaches to the truck frame. For some vehicles like the Tundra, the vehicle is designed with mounting holes in the rocker panel.
